Resort’s innovative Marine Discovery Centre creates week-long series of educational and entertaining activities especially for families and younger guests

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand (8 November 2018): Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort, the upscale oasis on southern Thailand’s idyllic Phi Phi Island, is aiming to inspire the next generation of marine biologists with a new daily programme of amazing experiences and activities at its Marine Discovery Centre.

Opened in 2018, this innovative and interactive facility helps to preserve the pristine maritime environment around Phi Phi with a range of programmes designed to educate guests and local residents alike. With indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, displays dedicated to the region’s diverse marine life, a video room and mini aquarium, the Marine Discovery Centre provides a fascinating window into the undersea world. Profits from the gift shop’s sales are used to support conservation work.

Young guests staying at Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort now have the chance to help the resident marine biologists and learn all about the offshore ecosystem with a week-long programme of activities. On each day of the week, families can discover a different aspect of conservation, from coral restoration to diving discoveries and much more!

Every Monday, the “Marine Life Education Tour” invites guests to head out by long-tail boat and snorkel on the coral reef, including the opportunity to see sharks. Then on Tuesdays, adventurous explorers can take a trip to Palong Bay and Bida Island to experience “Diving with Black Tip Reef Sharks”.

On Wednesdays, the “Become a Junior Marine Curator” programme invites children aged six and over to discover what it takes to be a marine biologist - potentially inspiring young guests in their future careers. This course is also offered every Sunday. Returning to the ocean every Thursday, the “Eco-Marine Discovery Tour” includes a long-tail boat trip, snorkelling and beach time. Then every Friday, families can enjoy “Diving with Nemo”, which uncovers Phi Phi’s tropical sea life.

Introductions to the Marine Discovery Centre are hosted every day, giving kids the opportunity to learn all about the spectacular underwater ecosystem, and the work being undertaken to preserve it. Finally, on the 18th of every month, “Save the Sea Day” features diving, snorkelling, seabed clean-up activities and visits to the resort’s coral nursery.

The aim of this daily activity programme is to educate, entertain and inspire the next generation of guests to preserve the world’s marine environments, which are currently under threat from a range of factors including plastic, pollution and climate change.

“Since it opened last year, our Marine Discovery Centre has done wonderful conservation work, restoring coral reefs and reintroducing species such as clown fish and bamboo sharks back into their natural habitats. Just as importantly, our dedicated marine biologists have educated hundreds of local children about the importance of conservation, including school visits,” commented said Khun Chao Treenawong, the resort’s General Manager.

“Our new daily activity programme invites all guests, including budding marine biologists, to learn more about Phi Phi’s tropical seas and discover how they can help preserve the world’s marine environments in future,” he added.

The daily introductions to the Marine Discovery Centre are offered free-of-charge, as part Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort’s ongoing CSR commitment. All other daily tours and activities are available at a charge and must be booked at least one day in advance.
