SHR is committed to conducting business alongside the sustainable development of surrounding communities under the philosophy that “Well-being begins with a strong community.” The Company believes that business growth should go hand in hand with the strengthening of local communities. Therefore, we prioritize creating jobs for local people, promoting the purchase of goods and services from the community, developing vocational skills, and preserving local culture through hotel activities. These efforts aim to enhance quality of life, build strong relationships between hotels and communities, and foster sustainable growth together over the long term.
SHR has organized activities to support and develop communities in various areas, both in Thailand and the Maldives. This includes supporting the local economy through purchasing products from communities and supporting local well-being, such as employment and social activities like organizing community markets (Street Markets) at the Marina project in the Maldives. SHR also supports environmental conservation activities such as mangrove reforestation, marine animal release, and natural resource restoration, as well as social contributions through blood donation drives and educational development in communities.
SHR places great importance on conducting business alongside cooperation with local communities to foster good relationships and gain acceptance for business operations (“License to Operate”). This creates opportunities for employment and income distribution within local areas, which helps the business grow sustainably and earn social acceptance. However, a lack of understanding or cooperation from communities may lead to conflicts, negatively affecting the company’s reputation and future business expansion opportunities.
SHR focuses on building strong relationships and mutual dependence with communities in all areas where we operate. We participate in local activities such as merit-making events and village football tournaments, as well as actively listen to feedback and suggestions from the community to collaboratively find solutions. Even when some issues do not arise directly from our operations—for example, wastewater and waste management around SAii Phi Phi Island Village—we support community initiatives such as constructing wastewater treatment facilities and providing opportunities for the community to dispose of waste at the hotel’s waste management center. This enables proper sorting and disposal of waste, with the goal of promoting sustainable growth for both the community and the business.
The Company has established a Cultural Learning Center at the Crossroads project in the Republic of Maldives to promote learning and preserve local wisdom. The center showcases the lifestyle and culture of the Maldivian people. Spanning over 500 square meters, the center features five interactive learning zones set within a thoughtfully curated local environment.
In 2024, the Maldives Discovery Centre attracted significant visitor interest. It also hosts a Marine Conservation Program, offering visitors the opportunity to actively participate in sustainable preservation of natural marine resources.
The hotel has adopted the principles of the Circular Economy to enhance waste management by creatively upcycling and adding value to waste materials. Through this initiative, expired bed covers and curtains are transformed into unique, reusable beach bags. This collaboration not only helps reduce textile waste but also creates employment opportunities and generates additional income for the local community. Skilled artisans from Seeds of Change Phuket, an organization dedicated to sustainable social development, design and sew the bags, supporting both environmental sustainability and community empowerment.
Promote the concept of Circular Economy
To create sustainable resource use by upcycling expired textiles (bed covers and curtains) into new products such as reusable beach bags, thereby reducing textile waste in the hotels.
Support local community development
Collaborate with Seeds of Change Phuket to hire local artisans, increasing income and employment opportunities in the community. The bags made from leftover textiles are designed and produced by local craftsmen.
Reduce waste and environmental impact
Reuse used textiles in various forms to minimize waste disposal and reduce the consumption of natural resources for new textile production.Promote sustainability in the tourism business
