CROSSROADS Maldives under S Hotels & Resorts Signs MoU with Maldives Islamic Bankto Restore Coral Reefs

Bangkok, Thailand (1 December 2025) S Hotels and Resorts PCL (“SHR”), the international hospitality company under Singha Estate, has taken another meaningful step toward its sustainability goals by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CROSSROADS Maldives and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB). Together, the two organisations will support a coral propagation and reef restoration initiative in the lagoon surrounding SAii Lagoon Maldives and The Marina @ CROSSROADS, pledging to safeguard the fragile marine ecosystem that’s home to countless species and a source of wonder for guests and locals alike.

The MoU was signed underwater in the very lagoon where the restoration work will take place. Representing their organisations in this shared commitment to protecting the natural beauty of the Maldives were Mr Mufaddal Idris Khumri, Managing Director of Maldives Islamic Bank, and Mr Alexander Traeger, General Manager of SAii Lagoon Maldives and The Marina @ CROSSROADS — both avid divers who took part in the symbolic ceremony beneath the surface.

The strategic partnership forms part of S Hotels and Resorts’ broader sustainability strategy, which includes a pledge to protect 30% of Key Biodiversity Areas across its destinations by 2030. By restoring coral reefs, the initiative will help regenerate marine habitats, support biodiversity and engage local communities in long-term conservation efforts. Guests will continue to play an active role through the group’s Marine Discovery Centres in Thailand and the Maldives, where expert-led experiences ranging from coral propagation and mangrove restoration to the “Save Our Sharks” programme offer hands-on ways to contribute to marine protection.
